Mark Goddard was born Charles Goddard on July 24, 1936, in Lowell, Massachusetts. During high school Goddard was active in baseball and basketball. He dreamed of becoming a basketball player but decided to become an actor instead. Early in his career Goddard appeared in the CBS series "Johnny Ringo". He was in the television show "The Detectives" for three years. He also played Major Don West in Irwin Allen's popular sci-fi show Lost in Space.

In 2008, Mark published a book, To Space and Back: A Memoir.
