The B9 Environmental Control Robot, affectionately referred to as the Robot or just Robot, was a Class M-3 General Utility Non-Theorizing Environmental Robot (G.U.N.T.E.R.) "designed and computerized as a mechanized electronic aid for Earth voyagers engaged in astral expeditions." ("The Ghost Planet"; "Time Merchant"; "Junkyard in Space") He had a male personality. Biography[]

The Robot was programmed in pre-med courses for two semesters at the Institute of Cybernetics. He was first in his class, but when he decided that he was more interested in space exploration, he changed his major subject. ("Kidnapped in Space") He also had another major in law at I.R.T. as well as programming in the culinary arts. ("Fugitives in Space") He was purchased by Alpha Control at great expense and included among the equipment aboard the Jupiter 2. ("The Reluctant Stowaway"; "The Toymaker"; "The Colonists"; "Time Merchant")

Aboard the Jupiter 2[]

Over time, the Robot was programmed with feelings. ("Time Merchant") These were manifested openly when the Robotoid threatened his position as part of the Robinson family. The Robot then became very protective of the Robinsons, disobeying commands and showing resentment toward its rival. ("War of the Robots")

As the Robot's personality grew, he acquired a sense of humor, mocking Dr Smith's attempts to ridicule him and even laughing at him. ("The Challenge", "Collision of the Planets")

Although the Robot was not programmed to protect the Robinsons, he was motivated to do so. He called Will Robinson his friend. ("The Lost Civilization") He also called Penny Robinson his friend. ("The Galaxy Gift")

The Robot eventually reached a level of self-control and awareness that he was able to program himself with new skills and abilities. ("The Colonists")
