Summary[]
As Tony Newman and Doug Phillips are flung out of the time vortex into an island jungle, Tony sprains his ankle. Doug is scouting for medical supplies, when he is spotted by an elderly Japanese sergeant, Itsugi, who opens fires on him. Doug hits the dirt just in time, and when his gun jams, Itsugi is easily overpowered. The time travelers discover that they have arrived on a Pacific island that has just been abandoned by the Japansese, and the time is, of course W.W.II.
Tony is testing his bandaged ankle when another Japanese, a young Lieutenant, appears and gets the drop on the time travelers. The Lieutenant tells them that he means to have a little sport before killing them. He has a game in mind that will involve the two Japanese soldiers hunting the two American scientists through the jungle. The Lieutenant considers this a fair contest as he is handicapped by an elderly partner while Doug is handicapped by Tony's injured ankle. The Lieutenant then offers some information as a stake: the Americans will land on the island today thinking the island abandoned, but the Japanese have a mass air attack planned. The prize in this game is the radio transmitter in the shack, which Doug and Tony could use warn their side. the The Lieutenant gives the time travelers a head start and they head into the jungle.
At Project Tic-Toc, the team now know that the island is near Iwo Jima and the time is February of 1945. To get an exact fix on Doug and Tony, they send for an expert on the area.
Back on the island, Doug manages to sneak into the storehouse and gets away with six grenades before being discovered. Doug melts into the jungle, puzzled by a conversation between the Lieutenant and Itsugi, who believes the younger man deserves to die. With Tony's help, Doug sets a trap then lets off a grenade to draw the Lieutenant to the spot. But the Lieutenant spots the booby-trap and comes after the time travelers. The scientists split up, Doug to try to draw away the Lieutenant while Tony heads for the shack to wire wire for help.
In the present day, Dr. Nakamura has arrived at the Tic-Toc complex to aid with identifying the island. When he is asked to identify the two Japanese soldiers, he faints at the sight of the young Lieutenant. It is Nakamura's son, long thought dead. Lieutenant Nakamura was a Kamikaze pilot who abandoned his mission and was left on the island to do the honorable thing - kill himself. The Tic-Toc team realize that far from trying to kill Doug and Tony, the Lieutenant actually wants them to kill him. Dr. Nakamura, who had long come to terms with his son's fate, demands that the scientists use the Tunnel to bring Lieutenant Nakamura to the present. This would mean leaving either Doug or Tony trapped on the island, in the past, as the current fix is only strong enough to transfer two men. The distraught doctor refuses to give the team any information unless one of those men is his son. The Tic-Toc team are forced reluctantly to agree to the demand.
On the island, Lieutenant Nakamura has decided to fulfill his sacred obligation and offers himself up to Doug to kill. Despite everything, Doug can't bring himself to kill the man, but a landing Marine shoots the Lieutenant. As the Marine wonders out loud what was going on, Doug and Tony vanish.

On a Pacific island in 1945, Tony (James Darren) and Doug (Robert Colbert) are captured by Lt. Nakamura (Mako) and Sgt. Itsugi (Kam Tong).
Background information[]
- It is revealed for the first time that Newman and Phillips must stay in the same place for a while for Project Tic-Toc can get to get a lock on them and move them to another time period (if possible), which is difficult due to them being constantly on the move during this episode.
- This was also the first time ever that Project Tic-Toc were in a total blackout for a while in regards to information of the area that Newman and Phillips were in and what exactly happened there, making retrieval of the two difficult.
