Maureen Robinson was the wife of John Robinson and the mother of three children; Judy, Penny, and Will. In the opening episode, she is identified as Dr. Maureen Robinson, holding a doctorate in biochemistry. In the series though, she is mostly seen in a traditional housewife role. She washes clothing in a sophisticated washing machine with flashing lights, which folds washed clothes and encloses them in plastic bags when finished. She also cooks, a specialty being her space chowder.
