Summary[]
After a research ship and a rescue ship disappear in the same location, the Seaview sets out to investigate.
Captain Lee Crane swims to a nearby island in hopes of discovering the reason why the two ships sank. While on the island, Crane meets Dimiti, a man who cannot speak. Dimiti claims that there is an underwater city - and he leads Crane to a point on the shoreline so the captain can investigate.
While diving, Crane encounters Melina, Dimiti's daughter. The two return to the shore to discover Dimiti dead. Melinia helps Crane to find the underwater city, and the two are captured by a man named Zeraff who is planning to use his underwater city to take over the world. Melina and Crane are able to escape, and the now repaired Seaview destroys the underwater city.
Background Information[]
- The mini-sub is destroyed for the first time in this episode. It would suffer the same fate in Submarine Sunk Here and Secret of the Loch.
- Hurd Hatfield (Zeraff) is well known for his role as the title character in the 1945 film The Picture of Dorian Gray.
- When Melina looks for Crane at his hotel, the desk clerk tells her his room is occupied by a "sweet little old lady on a world cruise." However, when she investigates, Nelson is in residence.
- The torpedoes fires from Seaview at the climax are propelled by obvious strings. These shots are never used in the series again.
